From Impossible Task to Dream Dress! Jess initially reached out to me for assistance in fitting an exceptionally large white wedding dress she had acquired elsewhere for her destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy. Given her very petite frame, it was an impossible task, even for me. However, when she saw the dresses in my designer collection, she fell in love with the colours and decided to commission a bespoke, made-to-measure gold wedding dress designed exclusively for her. First thing we carefully selected the right colour together, aiming for the perfect shade of gold—not just any gold colour. After several trips around London, nothing suitable was found and we were nearly ready to settle for the usual gold sequin fabric I often use for my dress designs. When fate intervened on our last day of search, and we found both fabrics we needed on the same day in matching colour. I discovered the most delicate and magical gold lace, adorned with iridescent shell pink pearly sequins. I was captivated by the sample swatch the supplier showed me. He waved a sample swatch at me, and I was hooked, only to be told it was sold out. Determined to have it, I realized that, given Jess's petite size, the small piece of fabric might suffice for her top corset, especially since we planned for a backless design.
I then met with her, and we visited the best fabric supplier in London—The supplier of the Queen. After sifting through hundreds of unsuitable options, we finally found the perfect one. We finally struck gold. Literally. The gold silk crepe satin I used for this dress is magical - it feel like liquid gold soft and delicate but also heavy and draping well, perfect for a long dramatic train at the back of the wedding dress. And Jess had a jewellery collection gifted by fiancé Dan she was going to wear on the wedding day, made of gold and pearls so it all tied up really well. Overjoyed, we screamed, hugged, and laughed, indifferent to onlookers people around us. It was an unforgettable day.
This enchanting gold wedding dress turned out more fabulous than my wildest dreams, perhaps due to Jess's elegance or the fabrics. There's something surreal and magical about it. I even added a matching peach colour veil with some leftover embroidery flowers! The entire look, and Jess herself, reminded me of my childhood book, The Tale of Thumbelina—a story of a little girl's challenges in a vast world, overcoming them to become queen of all the flowers. I could already imagine the bride on her day in the Italian sun and the veil dancing with the breeze..
