Unveiling the Story Behind Nina's Non-Traditional Boho Wedding Dress: A Rock'n'Roll Bride's Journey to Bespoke Perfection

When Nina walked into my studio, her excitement was palpable. She had seen my stunning gold sequin dress from the Peony Collection and longed for something equally unique and radiant. Initially, she had bought a traditional white lace gown, but it didn't capture her vibrant personality. This realization marked the start of her exciting journey toward a custom, non-traditional boho wedding dress that truly reflected who she was.

The first task upon arrival was exploring the studio's options. Nina tried on the white sequin wedding dress, which sparkled beautifully under soft lights, but indeed it was apparent that the colour did not suit her. During the fitting, I noticed Nina's tattoos, each telling a story and contributing to her lively character. This moment inspired the vision for her bespoke dress.

Nina wanted a pink dress with long sleeves, but I faced a challenge. I worried that the sequined fabric might cover Nina too much and obscure her tattoos. To address this, I decided to incorporate an illusion slit. This design choice revealed just enough skin while maintaining a sense of elegance. Using an invisible mesh also helped maintain the dress's mermaid silhouette while ensuring comfort and style.

Nina also agreed to a deep V illusion neckline, which flattered her petite frame and added an extra touch of charm to the dress. Initially, I hesitated about using bright pink hues, but those doubts faded after seeing the stunning photographs by Dale Weeks. The Asylum Chapel in Peckham, with its vibrant turquoise walls, provided an amazing backdrop for Nina and Jack’s wedding portraits, perfectly contrasting their artistic flair.

Nina and Jack's wedding became iconic and inspired many brides to embrace their unique styles. Beautiful images were published on the cover of Rock'n'Roll Magazine and the article tells more about the planning, the dress was featured on the Love My Dress wedding blog as well. Nina's non-traditional boho wedding dress and her vegan earth friendly wedding day resonated with couples seeking an alternative way to express their love.

When I created the gold sequin mermaid wedding dress in 2014, and after having a couple of brides getting married in it I still didn't expect to spark a trend. It has been an incredible journey to witness Nina embrace her individuality and inspire a wave of non-traditional brides to go with her vision. I posted some of these brides wedding journey in the SEQUIN section of my journal.

Today, Nina is an exceptionally talented photographer, showcasing her vibrant creativity. And I hope to collaborate with her again soon.

This experience is about more than just making a dress; it celebrates self-expression and love. For brides like Nina, seeking a unique style for their special day, the process of designing a custom dress is an opportunity to embrace individuality and break free from tradition.

What started as a simple idea blossomed into a stunning reflection of Nina's spirit and lifestyle. Each stitch of her bespoke dress told a story. On her special day, Nina radiated a unique beauty that inspired others to dare to be different.
